Laguna Madre Nature Trail on South Padre IslandNext to the Convention Centre and Whaling Wall No. 53, the Laguna Madre Nature Trail is a 1,500-foot boardwalk that extends across four acres of wetlands. Containing informative signs about dune systems and bird species that frequent the area, the nature trail provides visitors with the opportunity to observe many species of birds and other wildlife in their natural habitat.
Dolphin Research and Sealife Nature Center
Sealife Nature Center is a non profit center dedicated to the sealife education and preservation. The center is created by Captain George and Scarlet Colley. The Colleys have been studying and educating tourists regarding bottlenose Dolphins in the Gulf of Mexico. Both know each and every dolphin by their unique dorsal fin and have named each Dolphin. They have developed a special bond with the Dolphins. In addition to studying the Dolphins, captain George and Scarlet have dedicated the Sealife nature center for the education of sealife. The center is run by the donations only. Many sealife creatures found in the Gulf of Mexico can be seen at the center. Sea Turtle Inc
Visit the home of Ila Loetscher, who was known to locals as South Padre's Turtle Lady, and learn about the endangered Kemp's Ridley sea turtle ("tortuga lora"), the smallest species of sea turtle. Founded in 1977, the park serves as a safe-haven for turtles, providing them with protected nesting areas and, if needed, medical assistance.
